FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

The Barcelona City Bike Tour meets in Plaça Sant Jaume in the city center. We meet in the southwest corner of the plaza, nearest to C. Ferran. See our Contact Us page for maps and phone numbers to call if you are lost or running behind.

    • Your guide will be wearing a Fat Tire Tours t-shirt and will be with a Fat Tire Tours bike.
    • Since other tours also meet in this same plaza, be sure to confirm that you are with the Fat Tire Tours group.
    • The nearest metro stations are Liceu (Line 3) and Jaume I (Line 4)
  • Expand/Collapse Are food and drinks at the beach bar included in the tour price?

No, the cost is not included for any food or drinks at the bar. Please bring cash in euros on tour with you.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour appropriate for children?

Absolutely! We welcome kids of all ages on our City Bike tour and we're a great family activity. We have several kid bikes in a couple of different sizes, as well as adult bikes equipped with child seats and child trailers in addition to plenty of kid-sized helmets, so we can pretty much accommodate anyone and everyone. We also have available child tandem attachments for those kids who are too big for the child seats and trailers, but still a bit too young to ride their own bikes through the city.

    • The cost of the child tandem attachment is the same as the discounted "kid" price for children ages 12 and under. There is no charge for the use of our child seats, child trailers and helmets.
    • Although Barcelona is extremely large, the area we bike in is very flat and our tours follow carefully selected bike-friendly routes. It is necessary, however, that any person participating in our bike tours have at least some bike riding experience, and should be comfortable riding in a group.
  • Expand/Collapse What are your bike options?

Ultra-hard seats? Razor-thin tires? Or fender-less mountain bikes with back-breakingly low handlebars? Not with Fat Tire! Our curvy beach cruisers are purchased new at the beginning of each season and are the pinnacles of city-biking comfort. With cushy seats, fat tires (obviously), and handlebars that come up to meet you, it just doesn’t get more relaxed. There are vice-like brakes to make sure you stop quickly and with multiple gears, you can choose your level of pedal-pushing effort.

  • Expand/Collapse Is a helmet included?

Helmets are optional for all of our tours, but we have them in sizes for all ages.  Please let us know if you think you’d like to reserve some for your tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Can we buy water at your office?

Yes, we have bottled water for sale in our office.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour offered in any other languages, or only English?

All scheduled tours are in English, but please inquire about other languages available if booking a private tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

Due to time-constraints, we do not visit the inside of buildings during our tours. Our standard 4-hour city tour would last for about 8 hours if we parked the bikes and went inside all the sites. We do stop for several minutes at each major site along the tour route in order for the guide to talk about the site and we never miss the chance for a photo-opportunity! You’ll listen to entertaining and insightful, not dull and monotonous, anecdotes of Barcelona at every stop.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I leave the tour early?

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate special requests like this on our public tours.  Once the tour begins we ask that you stay with the guide and the group until the end.  If you're interested in something shorter, please inquire about a private tour.

  • Expand/Collapse How long is the ride?

Our Barcelona City Bike Tour covers approximately 7 miles (11 km).

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We are happy to offer full refunds for our City Bike Tour if the reservation is cancelled more than 72 hours (3 days) before the scheduled tour.  We do not offer refunds for any reason once we are within 72 hours of the scheduled tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Where is your shop located?

Our tour shop is located very nearby our meeting point, on a little side street off of Plaça Sant Jaume. The address is C. Marlet, 4 Barcelona 08002.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your weather policy?

All of our tours operate rain or shine, and we have rain ponchos available in our office for purchase (fully refunded if not used).

  • Expand/Collapse Is there a place to store luggage or bags while I'm on tour?

Absolutely, please feel welcome to bring your luggage along to the meeting point and the tour guides will direct you to our nearby shop where you may store your bags while out on the tour.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All in all, good tour Joined a tour in May, it was informative but there wasn't as much covered for the time we were there - mainly a lot of cycling. seemed very well organised with multiple tours departing at the same time. they kept our belongings secure in their shop which was helpful. the big let down was the restaurant stop, which was positioned as no obligation but it really didnt feel that way...we were also advised it was excellent food but it was terrible with lots of us sending it back. i'd recommend this tour if you're keen to see lots but probably not if you're interested in learning a lot about the city - and i'd certainly opt out of the lunch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to see the main attractions! First let me start by saying our guide was amazing (Ben). He was very enthusiastic, passionate about the tour, and a pleasure to tour with. I don't think I would have enjoyed the tour as much without a guide like Ben! The tour was very leisurely. We biked around the city to the main attractions where Ben told us a brief history about each one. Our group was small which made things more personable and gave us opportunity for question. After we saw the attractions, we biked down to the beach where we had a lunch (not included in price but optional). After lunch we had a nice ride back to the main center of Barcelona. I would suggest this to anyone who enjoys a little excerise, wants to see the attractions, and is on a time schedule to see them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great way to get to know Barcelona! My husband and I decided to take a bike tour on our first day in Barcelona as a way to get to know the city, see some of the sights, and beat jet lag. Our guide, Adam, was friendly, funny, and knowledgable, and helped us expertly navigate narrow alleys and busy intersections. By the end, we almost felt like locals, despite definitely looking like tourists. The only minor drawback was that we didn't end up stopping for lunch which we had read was part of the itinerary, but with the Fat Tire bike shop centrally located in the Gothic Quarter we had no problem finding great food and drinks nearby after the tour. Great value and a lot of fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fun and an amazing way to see the city Bought the afternoon tour and had a great time! Ben our host was hilarious and did a great job of keeping all of us alive! The roads can be crazy, particularly when some members of your group should probably should have stuck to having 2 feet on the ground! We saw a lot of the old town, the major sights including the cathedral and le sagrada familia, but also had a nice ride along the beach and I learnt about areas to visit later such as Born. Would highly recommend this tour. The afternoon wasn't too hot so it was a perfect time to join. You don't need to be super fit, just have your wits about you and be able to follow a leader!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Went above and beyond! This was our third Fat Tire Bike tour in various cities and each one has been stellar. We have to commend our guide Chrissy who was tremendous at keeping our group together, treating us to a great, informative ride throughout the wonderful city of Barcelona but also being incredibly resourceful. We were there during a very crowded Merce festival as we found our paths blocked by parades and crowds, she went with the flow and showed us some great sights and got us back along some interesting routes. Also went above and beyond in food recommendations that were spot on! Thanks Chrissy for a great ride and a terrific introduction to beautiful Barcelona!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We LOVED our bike tour! My husband and I booked a bike tour and were put in a great group of people lead by our guide, Ava, who was fantastic! Despite getting caught in an unexpected rain shower, we had an amazing time. The tour was longer than we expected which was a nice surprise. Ava was wonderful in telling us all about the history of Barcelona and even gave us great recommendations on where to eat and what to see next. (thanks for the Blai street pinchos suggestion - we loved it!!!) You are very lucky to have Ava in your employment. She was a warm and enthusiastic guide who made our bike tour the highlight of our trip. Thank you Ava and Fat Tire Tours!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from September 30 2017 My family including my 12 year daughter were mostly happy with the tour on the 30 September, however I would like to be very honest in my appraisal of my experience with the guides. Our guide (a girl whose name I cannot recall) was very engaging and knowledgeable however was very reluctant to assist when my daughter was unable to continue the tour following the lunch break, finally after a lot of convincing she agreed to allow us to leave the bikes at a nearby restaurant. She had no real knowledge of a standard procedure should this scenario occur. Also another male guide was very rude when passing as my daughter and I were lagging behind our group.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Okay tour It was an okay tour. We biked all over the city. We were spread out most of the time and didn't feel like our tour guide gave us very much information. It was hot, and traffic was heavy. I wouldn't do it again especially if I was going to stay in the city for a few days. We have seen in detail all the places the bike tour highlighted. Don't buy their "picnic lunch" it was a small amount of okay food for $10. It was extremely overpriced. Also, be prepared for 20-30 minutes at the beach. Take a swimsuit or towel or you sit in the sun eating your picnic lunch wasting time. We do bike tours in every city we travel to, and this is one I would have skipped.
