FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

The Barcelona City Bike Tour meets in Plaça Sant Jaume in the city center. We meet in the southwest corner of the plaza, nearest to C. Ferran. See our Contact Us page for maps and phone numbers to call if you are lost or running behind.

    • Your guide will be wearing a Fat Tire Tours t-shirt and will be with a Fat Tire Tours bike.
    • Since other tours also meet in this same plaza, be sure to confirm that you are with the Fat Tire Tours group.
    • The nearest metro stations are Liceu (Line 3) and Jaume I (Line 4)
  • Expand/Collapse Are food and drinks at the beach bar included in the tour price?

No, the cost is not included for any food or drinks at the bar. Please bring cash in euros on tour with you.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour appropriate for children?

Absolutely! We welcome kids of all ages on our City Bike tour and we're a great family activity. We have several kid bikes in a couple of different sizes, as well as adult bikes equipped with child seats and child trailers in addition to plenty of kid-sized helmets, so we can pretty much accommodate anyone and everyone. We also have available child tandem attachments for those kids who are too big for the child seats and trailers, but still a bit too young to ride their own bikes through the city.

    • The cost of the child tandem attachment is the same as the discounted "kid" price for children ages 12 and under. There is no charge for the use of our child seats, child trailers and helmets.
    • Although Barcelona is extremely large, the area we bike in is very flat and our tours follow carefully selected bike-friendly routes. It is necessary, however, that any person participating in our bike tours have at least some bike riding experience, and should be comfortable riding in a group.
  • Expand/Collapse What are your bike options?

Ultra-hard seats? Razor-thin tires? Or fender-less mountain bikes with back-breakingly low handlebars? Not with Fat Tire! Our curvy beach cruisers are purchased new at the beginning of each season and are the pinnacles of city-biking comfort. With cushy seats, fat tires (obviously), and handlebars that come up to meet you, it just doesn’t get more relaxed. There are vice-like brakes to make sure you stop quickly and with multiple gears, you can choose your level of pedal-pushing effort.

  • Expand/Collapse Is a helmet included?

Helmets are optional for all of our tours, but we have them in sizes for all ages.  Please let us know if you think you’d like to reserve some for your tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Can we buy water at your office?

Yes, we have bottled water for sale in our office.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour offered in any other languages, or only English?

All scheduled tours are in English, but please inquire about other languages available if booking a private tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

Due to time-constraints, we do not visit the inside of buildings during our tours. Our standard 4-hour city tour would last for about 8 hours if we parked the bikes and went inside all the sites. We do stop for several minutes at each major site along the tour route in order for the guide to talk about the site and we never miss the chance for a photo-opportunity! You’ll listen to entertaining and insightful, not dull and monotonous, anecdotes of Barcelona at every stop.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I leave the tour early?

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate special requests like this on our public tours.  Once the tour begins we ask that you stay with the guide and the group until the end.  If you're interested in something shorter, please inquire about a private tour.

  • Expand/Collapse How long is the ride?

Our Barcelona City Bike Tour covers approximately 7 miles (11 km).

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We are happy to offer full refunds for our City Bike Tour if the reservation is cancelled more than 72 hours (3 days) before the scheduled tour.  We do not offer refunds for any reason once we are within 72 hours of the scheduled tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Where is your shop located?

Our tour shop is located very nearby our meeting point, on a little side street off of Plaça Sant Jaume. The address is C. Marlet, 4 Barcelona 08002.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your weather policy?

All of our tours operate rain or shine, and we have rain ponchos available in our office for purchase (fully refunded if not used).

  • Expand/Collapse Is there a place to store luggage or bags while I'm on tour?

Absolutely, please feel welcome to bring your luggage along to the meeting point and the tour guides will direct you to our nearby shop where you may store your bags while out on the tour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to see a beautiful city We were shown around by our host, Crissy (sorry if I've spelt this wrong). She had a good knowledge of Barcelona and could tell us not only about the history of the city but also about the region. We were advised well on how to stay safe during our cycle and we were taken along the cycle routes of which there are plenty in Barcelona. Where we had no option but to use the road, we were well looked after. The tour takes into account all abilities of cycling and we were given plenty of time at each stop. A very good tour and well worth doing. Fat Tire Tours can be found at other cities in Europe and after this tour, they'd be me preferred choice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I wanted This bike tour of Barcelona was exactly what I would have wanted to experience. As well as a few of the main sights, we also stopped at a few that I wouldn't have thought of and am so thriled that we did. Riding a bike through Barcelona made me feel like a resident, such a great way to cruise through this amazing city. The ultimate was a ride along the beach front and stopping for a great lunch before sadly having to say goodbye to the group and our very colourful leader Danni who provided enough interesting info, interspersed with fun stories and was interested in each and every member of her group. Completely recommend the tour.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice introduction to Barcelona! My 18 year old son and I took this tour together. It was a good way to get a little bit of information about a variety of options to do while in Barcelona. We would have enjoyed a little more history thrown in, but our guide was very entertaining. I would not recommend this tour for ages under 25 or over 65. It is a bit rigorous and arduous at times riding a bike in the traffic. We did the evening tour which lasted only three hours with no lunch stop, but we did have a couple of ten or fifteen minute breaks. Disappointed no one arrived at our meeting point until five minutes before it departed. I was very concerned we were in the wrong meeting spot. Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Danni and Threepetes My wife & I did the 11am tour after arriving in our hotel at 2am, and while it was unusual to have 3Petes from NZ all there at once, Danni was warm, engaging and informative in showing us around the city. The pace was lively enough for everyone, she knew her stuff, and it was time well spent getting our bearings around this lovely city when we are only here for a limited time this visit. Similar to walking you get a real feel for the city but cover a lot more ground in the time. Highly recommended, and suitable for all ages (within reason at the upper end). Thanks Danni, you gave us a great introduction to Barcelona

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only way to see a city! My travel mates and I had a fantastic time on our bike tour of Barcelona! Our guide, (whose name escapes me since it was five months ago - brown curly hair, Catalonian native) was informative, funny and set a pace that was just right. One of my friends was nervous about the bike tour concept as she hadn't ridden a bike in a long time and was worried she wouldn't be able to keep up, but she had no problem at all. All the stops were lovely with the right amount of time to explore a little and take pictures. It was easy to set up, locate the starting point and the bikes were in decent shape. Thanks for a great experience! This will now be my go-to idea for exploring new cities!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, comprehensive tour of Barcelona! I had a great time on this tour. A bike tour is an interactive way to see the city while being active and outdoors! We got a great history of the city of Barcelona and the region of Catalan on our tour. It was a perfect activity for the first day of our trip so that we gained an understanding of the history and culture of the city as well as learned about some of the major influences. The tour was organized, comprehensive, and very fun! We ended with a great lunch by the beach where we could socialize and get to know our tour guide better! I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Barcelona!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but not as good as the Paris and Berlin ones Having done the Paris and Berlin tours, we were excited about doing the Barcelona version on our trip. The rendez-vous point in the square wasn't that obvious so it took a while to find where to meet our guide. The guide was very friendly and fairly knowledgeable about Barcelona, but we just felt we didn't learn as much as we'd done on the other tours, or that the tour included as many sights/stops as the others, and that key landmarks seemed to have been missed. It's still a great way to see the city and get your bearings, and Barcelona's roads are great for cycling, and a nice way to meet new people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic tour! Great way to see a large area of the city (from the Gothic Quarter to La Sagrada Familia to the beach). Fat Tire has a great "formula" - enough information without getting bogged down, delivered in an entertaining way and getting some good exercise. Our guide gave us insight into Catalonia's and Spain's history, while being interesting and entertaining. The tour ended at a fun beach restaurant. Our guide gave great recommendation for paella, and it was our best meal in Barcelona! We have done Fat Tire Bike Tour in Paris with great success, and Fat Tire Barcelona did not disappoint. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to see Barcelona! I'm a university student studying abroad, and this tour was well worth the money! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and I definitely saw things I wouldn't have otherwise seen. Many of the things in Barcelona are fairly spread out, so biking is highly preferable to walking to each location. The other option would be public transportation to each location, but you miss so many of the sights when you get on an underground train. The tour stops at a restaurant by the beach which is a little pricey for a college student trying to save money, but for an adult on a vacation, the restaurant is very affordable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from great way to tour city when time limited The tour started out very confused. We were split into groups then stood around waiting. Then our group was split again as we went for the bikes. The guides did not even know what was going on. Then as we got our bikes our group was rearranged yet again confusing the guides even more. We finally got started about 4:45 for a 4 pm start. I found our guide Jordan to be ok. Informative but giving his talks by habit not reall y making it interesting to me. The biking itself was through some extremely crowded areas making it not much fun for me personally. I have been on bike tours in other cities that were more enjoyable. I know you can't control the crowds but it wasn't fun for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great way to see the major sights This was a great and enjoyable way to see the major sights. We were given time to rest and drink water and also a few minutes to take photos, it gave us a taste of the sights and if we want to come back later, we were able to decide from there. It's high paced and I wished that my guide slowed down and waited for the other group members who got stuck at the traffic lights - this was disappointing and reduced the quality of the tour as we had to wait for people. It was also a bit stressful riding on the road with cars but the breeze was nice - make sure to put on lots of sunscreen and maybe a hat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and informative bikeride through Barcelona! (: Me and a friend wanted to experience Barcelona, and went on this nice bike ride through the city. We didn't have a lot of time in Barcelona, so this was a great way to get around some of the main attractions in a relatively short amount of time. The approx. 4 h ride just flew by. Along the way we got some interesting historical insights of the places we visited, spiced up with good humour from our guide Ben. The ride isn't hard and I would reckon it is doable for most people. Our guide was very enthusiastic and a good storyteller. All in all the bike tour is a great way to experience Barcelona (:

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Beginning to Barcelona We have been on two other Fat Tire bicycle tours; this one did not disappoint. While in the beginning we had to push our bicycles through two busy plazas to be considerate to locals, we then hopped on our bicycles and saw popular sites around Barcelona. Barcelona has many dedicated bicycle lanes, and when red lights separated us our guide always waited before turning, making the journey stress free. Our guide was easy going and very informative; he was a former student that extended his stay in Barcelona, and his passion for the city came through. We highly recommend Fat Tire bicycle tours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best way to see and learn about Barcelona! This was one of my favorite things that I did while I was in Barcelona! My tour guide, Dicken was fantastic! I walked away with so much information about Catalonia, the Catalan culture and just the beautiful city of Barcelona! I got to see so much. Dicken made this tour so much fun...especially when it began to downpour towards the of the tour... which made it that much more memorable, because it really doesn't rain like that in the middle of July in Barcelona! This tour was a great experience, and at the end of the tour, Dicken recommended a few great places for food and drink which was very helpful, seeing that it was my first day in barcelona! I would definitely use Flat Tire Tours again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing tour let down by the lunch So we tried this tour out back in 2000 in Paris and it left such a great impression we decided to do the Barcelona tour with our kids aged 11 and 8yrs. What an awesome way to see the city! The kids absolutely loved the physical and exciting aspect of biking around the city and our guide kept everyone interested and engaged throughout the day. A bad choice of restaurant for lunch put a dampener on what was otherwise a great tour. Would recommend you skip lunch on the beach if you do this tour so you can finish on a high. Would definitely recommend this tour, it was awesome, just not the lunch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I booked this on a recommendation and I'm so happy that I did. My friends and I (4 21yr old girls) where in a group with 16 others. The tour providers ensured that we were put with other English speaking travelers, so there was no problem with language barriers. The tour guide was excellent. She provided us with really infesting historical, cultural and architectural facts whilst also making it fun:) the tour itself went on for just over 4 hours and we were well looked after going down busy roads and through busy tourists spots. Over all it was really excellent and the best part of the trip!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tour! Our guide, Jordan, was great! This was our first day in the city and not only did this give us a chance to get our legs moving, but we learned a bit about the history of Barcelona, as well as current events, that we otherwise would not have uncovered. It was just the perfect amount of exercise -- not too strenuous but not painfully slow either. Some of the planned parts of the tour were thwarted due to Catalonia-related protests, but Jordan navigated swiftly around the obstacles and didn't miss a beat returning us safely to the starting point. The price was very reasonable as well. Would definitely do this again to get oriented in a new city and would recommend Fat Tire Tours to anyone who asks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tour & guide I chose Fat Tire Tours as I'd been on their tour in Berlin and loved it. Great customer service, good quality bikes and enthustic tour guides. We did the 4 hour city tour which lasted around 3hrs 15mins (I think our beach bar visit was left out). It was a great tour hosted by Ben. It wasn't strenuous so would be suitable for all ages, levels of fitness etc. The information provided was really well pitched and well received by everyone in the group. Ben was engaging, knowledgable and enthusiastic. I'd recommend doing this tour early on in your visit as it's a great way to get your bearings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dickens the Wonder Guide I went on the Barcelona Tour on the 9th July, 2016. It was outstanding. The passion, humour, and energy our guide bought to the tour was infectious. His desire to cover not only the obvious information but to share some interesting insights assisted in making the tour memorable. This was a truly inexpensive, healthy, fun, and interactive way to see an amazing city. Excellent work Dickens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny and your time Paula was our tour guide and a true Catalan at heart. She knows her stuff. The fours hours goes fast. It was difficult to maneuver the small cobblestone alleys. You'll get lots of dirty looks from pedestrians. But once you get out into the streets, it's smooth sailing. We enjoyed the tour and a great way to see other areas of Barcelona where you might not have thought about seeing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great overview of the city We cycled around the central sights of Barcelona with Bianca, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This was a great thing to do in order to get our bearings in the city, and Bianca had lots of interesting history and facts to tell us about the places that we visited. We normally avoid guided tours because we prefer to explore cities ourselves, but we were very pleasantly surprised by the professionalism and experience of Fat Tire, who were recommended to us by a friend. I’d highly recommend doing a Fat Tire tour to anyone looking for an overview of a city on their first visit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't miss a bike tour of Barcelona! We did the bike tour of Barcelona that included all the main attractions. It was great way to get a feel for the city and helped us plan what we wanted to go back and spend more time. Our guide, Ben, was fantastic . . . knowledgeable and funny! He made the tour fun and interesting. This was a leisurely bike ride with a break at Barceloneta Beach where we enjoyed a delicious lunch at a beach front open air restaurant. The price of the lunch is not included in the ticket price, but is was very reasonable and delicious. This is a must do activity! You will really enjoy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun, informative, and an enjoyable cruise Having visited Barcelona before, I decided to do this bike tour to get a 'quick overview' of the city's sights as I had a spare day before a work conference. Adam our guide was hilarious, engaging, and provided interesting historical info throughout the trip. The route we took was enjoyable, not too crowded, and Adam always ensured cars and pedestrians were aware of the 'bike bus'. Best thing about touring on a bike is it's not tiring on the legs, which I did on a previous visit to Barcelona. I'd recommend doing this as the first activity to get a general idea of what's available, then visit particular sites afterwards. The guides are also more than happy to provide tips on places to visit or eat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing way to see the city! First time in Barcelona and first city tour by bike! This was an amazing way to see the city. Our guide Ava was both friendly and knowlegeable and only too happy to answer questions as we went along. She kept good control of the group, which considering we were riding along some of the main roads in the city was no mean feat! Lunch was enjoyable and a chance to talk to other people in the group, which we really enjoyed doing. I thought the tour length was just right and took in the right amount of attractions. I learnt so much and Ava pitched her information just right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to see and learn of Barcelona Fat Tire knows how to give a good city tour. They combine sightseeing with history with humor and with exercise (though not too strenuous at all). I'd recommend taking this tour early on your visit to Barcelona, because it will give you a nice introduction to the city, then you'll know how to spend the next few days. I did this with daughter (me, age 56 and she age 23), and we had such a good time that when my wife arrived a few days later, I took HER on the same Fat Tire tour as well. I had different guides for each tour, and they were both fabulous story tellers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great lay of the land I enjoyed the tour, it gave me a good lay of the land of Barcelona. It was great to learn about Barcelona's thriving history and how it influences life today. Our guide Jordan was engaging, informative and fun. I did feel, however, that there were not enough stops as we biked to places too far from one another. I was disappointed by the lunch. One because the food was overpriced and not great, additionally because we only had one more stop left on he tour! We finished eating and then basically biked back to drop off the bikes, if I'd known that I would have eaten after the tour. Other than these aspects it was a wonderfully informative tour and I did see a variety of things I certainly would not have found on my own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely First Class! After an excellent experience on the Paris FTBT we booked again when visiting Barcelona. This second experience didn't disappoint us and although we didn't think it possible, it exceeded the first by far! Dicken, our tour guide, was superb and made the whole trip thoroughly enjoyable - adding humour in the right places when relaying the amazing history the City holds. Cannot rate Fat Tire Bicycle Tours highly enough and will recommend to any friends visiting cities where FTBT exist. We're already looking forward to the next one when we visit Rome. THANK YOU!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great views and tour guides I recently did the tour in Barcelona, the tour guide was lovely, friendly and very informative. Although I enjoyed the bike tour I was disappointed that the bikes are all one size. As a girl of 4,11I found it uncomfortable that i couldnt reach the floor or the peddles without being on the front instep of my foot, this was with putting the seat down to the lowest point. This made my experience slightly less enjoyable as i found it difficult to stop quickly in traffic and then set off quickly again. Maybe different size bikes is something the company could consider?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second most fun we had in Barcelona The most fun thing that my girlfriend and I did in Barcelona was to get engaged in Park Guell, so she is now my fiancée. But our 4-hour tour of Barcelona by bike, guided by the ever-entertaining Dicken was easily the second most fun thing we did. What a wonderful way to see the city, meeting interesting people from all over, and hear the history of Barcelona in an informative and entertaining way. I loved it so much I actually wanted to do the tour again the next day but with limited time we couldn't do it. Can't recommend the tour and Fat Tire Tours highly enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loads of fun if a bit scattered.... Very happy we took the tour. Our guide (I forget her name, sorry) was informative and humorous. The ride itself highlighted some of the main tourist areas of Barcelona, and gave us a good sense of the layout of the city. I don't envy our host, Barcelona has lots of tiny streets to get down, and avoiding pedestrians is a full time job. I think our host was a bit overwhelmed with the task of keeping us together. At a few points we had to wait to get brought back to the fold, which she did competently. Inevitably traffic lights made staying in a single group an impossible task, but it was all good. I think Barcelona, other than the awesome boardwalk and a few main avenues, is just a difficult city to tour in. If I were to do it again I think I would look for a tour that highlighted lesser known aspects or areas of the city, or perhaps a food themed tour. We wound up (after a long ride, almost 4 hours!) at a beach bar lunch spot. All in all a great way to see the city and would take Fat Tire tours again.
