Enjoy the Thames River Bike Tour.

Watch the sun set over the majestic river on our new River Thames Evening Bike Tour. This tour will cycle you through the heart of the city taking in many of the iconic London sites as well as getting a feel for the mystery and romance of London's riverside by twilight.

Don't miss an opportunity to watch the city's lights glistening over London Bridge from the comfy seat of one of our cruiser bikes! While the cycling is relaxed, our guests often find that it can be thirsty work so we make sure to pop into one of London's best local pubs along the way (drink included). Also please note that while the cycling is very leisurely we do ride on the road for parts of this tour and cycling competency and confidence is required.

FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

A reservation is required due to a limited number of spaces on the tour.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 72 hour cancellation policy for a full refund. If you miss the tour for any reason, we'll gladly reschedule you on another available tour anytime for up to a year. If you can't make it, it is a good idea to email us ahead of time.

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

The morning and evening tours meet directly outside Southwark Underground Station (Jubilee Line) where you will see your guide with one of our beach cruiser style bikes and holding a sign.

  • Expand/Collapse Do tours run all year round?

The River Thames tour is by reservations only. Please check the scheduling info on the tour page. Basically, if you can book it on our website, we're running it. And if not, do consider a private tour - if you have a decent size group (7+) or are willing to pay slightly more for the privilege, we will gladly create a bespoke tour for you at any time of the year.

  • Expand/Collapse Is the tour difficult?

There is a lot more road riding on this tour so you must be confident on a bike. It is not strenuous but is a little bit longer and a touch more intimidating than our Royal London Tour.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your weather policy?

We run tours rain or shine and have plenty of rain ponchos. We find tours in the rain to be a different kind of fun and an even more fun memory! If you have a reservation and the weather is really bad, you are welcome to reschedule the tour for any other day for up to year.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we stop for a break?

Yes. We stop about half way into the tour for a drink at a 400 year old pub (drink included).

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

No, the bike tours are an overview of the sites and more about getting a feel for the city. However, on private tours you can arrange to take extra time at the sites if you'd like to go inside.

  • Expand/Collapse Will we be able to take photos?

Yes. There will be a chance to take many photos at the designated stops.

  • Expand/Collapse Is there a space to store bags or luggage?

Yes. You are welcome to leave bags, luggage or unwanted family members in our garages. Someone is usually in the office and it will be locked up if they have to leave. While we have never had a single case of theft or loss of items, you do leave them at your own risk.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you provide the bikes?

    Absolutely.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I supply my own bike?

You are welcome to bring your own bicycle and will receive a discount of 10%. Our insurance only covers the theft of our own bicycles, so please do bring your own lock for the lunch stop.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you have children's bikes?

We do have a limited amount of children's bikes and baby seats. Unfortunately there are no tag-alongs available for this tour. You and your children will need to be comfortable cycling alongside traffic for this tour, so if you are at all unsure about your child's ability to cycle on the roads in London, the Royal London Tour might be the better option for you. Please be sure to specify in the NOTES of your booking.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour appropriate for children?

We have loads of families and we're a great family activity. We offer two bike options for children depending on their age, size, and riding ability. Please keep in mind that children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

    • We have various sized city bikes to accommodate just about every size of rider, from extra small 20 inch wheeled bikes for riders that are 3.3ft (100cm) to extra large for riders up to 6.5ft (198cm). Unfortunately, we do not have adult tricycles, tandems, or bikes with training wheels for adults or children that may be less confident in their riding ability.
    • There is no additional charge for baby seats. Due to limited availability, please book baby seats and 20” and 24” wheeled bikes in advance.
    • Please Note: All extra small 20 inch and small 24 inch bikes are equipped with both hand brakes.
    • Our city tours are very casual, with only slight elevation changes on varying surfaces including smooth gravel and pavement. It is necessary, however, that any person participating in our bike tours have at least some bike riding experience, and should be comfortable riding in a group.
  • Expand/Collapse Is a helmet included?

Yes. You are not compelled by law to wear helmets in the UK, but we have more than enough for everyone so the choice is entirely yours.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you rent bikes?

Yes, but, you must contact us ahead of time, especially during the summer when all the bikes may be taken up on the tours.

  • Expand/Collapse Can you suggest a bicycle repair shop in London?

Our very excellent mechanic, Alex, is available to work on your bike so please feel free to get in contact with us if you would like to book your bike in with him: http://www.lezcycles.com/about.html

Thames River Bike Tour Reviews

RIVER THAMES EVENING BIKE TOUR is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best way to see london Fat Tire guides will give you one of the best introductions to London. The bike routes and highlights are fun and informative. These tours rival any double decker buses and river rides in town. I've been on these bike tours in Paris, Amsterdam and Rome, and London is one of the best - rain or shine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun tour with plenty of cycling! I liked this tour more than the day one, it had a bit more cycling and we rode on plenty of bike lanes through the city which was fun. The included beer at a pub was a lot of fun, and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. I would recommend this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from London River Thames evening tour I did both the Royal Bike Tour and the River Thames evening tour. Both were awesome and great ways to get your bearings in the city and hear a bit of what you were seeing. My favorite pics came from the evening tour; the landmarks at sunset were spectacular. Both guides were amazing. Highly recommended!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Loved the ride The ride was a great way to finish my day after getting in to London. I was able to see a lot of the city very quickly and learn some interesting facts which I otherwise would not have been able to do

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Enjoyable Night Tour with Max (and kids) Another great experience with Fat Bike Tours. We had done the Paris evening night bike tour and had such a good time we slotted ourselves in for another one in London with Max who was full of information, legend, lore and the best details you can only get from an experienced guide. These bike tours are the best way to explore a new city especially with kids when you can cover alot of ground with a great balance of exercise and education. It was one adult and my 3 children aged 6,9 and 11 on this 4.5 hour bike tour. Pace of the tour was very easy and multiple stops to keep the kids involved and flexibility around what areas we were keen to see most. Would highly recommend this tour for families, friends and anyone wanting to see a great city at night. Awesome job Fat Tire tours and we will catch you again the next time we are back in town!
