Monday March 12th - Tuesday March 13th 2018
After the busyness of London and Paris, Florence is often a respite of peace. And if peace is what you want, there are few more peaceful places on earth than Assisi. This beautiful, hilltop town in Umbria (southeast of Tuscany) is famous for being the home of St. Francis, founder of the Franciscan order of Friars and is still the home of the Franciscan Order (the most famous one in the US is probably Friar Tuck of Robin Hood fame). Students will get the chance to explore the monastery he founded, see his bed, and explore the beautiful Umbrian countryside.
The town of Assisi hearkens back to the middle ages with its narrow alleys, beautiful churches and big castle. A day in Assisi includes an overnight stay, visits to major Franciscan sites in the city, a talk with a modern friar, and a relaxing day in my favorite place on earth.
Guests on this excursion will stay overnight at the Hotel San Francesco and depart directly for Rome the following morning.
