If a relaxing day combining travel through the beautiful Tuscan countryside, an incredible lunch, and visits to some of the other great sites of Tuscany are your thing, then the Best of Tuscany offers the best of all possible worlds.
The first stop of the day is the historic city of Siena. The great renaissance rival of Florence and home of the oldest continuously operated bank in the world, you’ll visit their lovely duomo and be able to compare it with the more famous one in Rome. Siena is also the home of St. Catherine, who persuaded the popes to leave Avignon and return to Rome. It is currently, however, only the home of her head. The rest of her body is in Rome at Santa Maria Sopra Minerva. Siena is also famous for its Palio horserace - a crazy bareback ride around the town’s main square.
After spending the morning in Siena, you will travel towards San Gimignano for lunch at an organic farm. Your taste buds will thank you for this delectable meal! After lunch, it’s on to San Gimignano, a town that time forgot, where you will explore its medieval streets and shops, while making sure you find time to partake of the world’s best gelato. You’ll be back in Florence in the evening in time for dinner.
