Take a journey back in time outside of D.C. to the beautiful estate of America's first President: Mount Vernon. Your general admission entrance ticket offers the opportunity to explore the estate at your own pace, with access to the gardens, the museum and education center, a working blacksmith shop, and stunning panoramic views of the Potomac River. 

See original historic objects, including George Washington's famous dentures and the reconstructed gristmill (open April through October). In the 4D theater onsite, you can watch the American Revolution come to life and imagine what life was like when the Washingtons called this estate home.

    We offer 100% refunds on all tours if the reservation is cancelled more than 72 hours (3 days) before the scheduled tour. We do not offer refunds for any reason once we are within 72 hours of the scheduled tour.

    Take the D.C. Metro Yellow Line to Huntington Station. Exit at the lower level of the station (Huntington Avenue) to catch a Fairfax Connector bus to Mount Vernon. Board the Fairfax Connector Bus #101, the Fort Hunt Line, for a 20-minute trip to Mount Vernon's entrance gate.

    Mount Vernon's seasonal hours are as follows:

    April through October: 9:00am - 5:00pm 

    November through March: 9:00am - 4:00pm 

    Please note that visitors during peak season (mid-March-May), you may experience longer wait times before entering the mansion, and we recommend arriving to Mount Vernon with plenty of time to enjoy your day. Most visitors spend several hours exploring the mansion and grounds.

    Yes, visitor parking is free at Mount Vernon.

    There are a few options for eating at Mount Vernon, and please note that outside food or drinks are not allowed other than bottled water. 

    There is a food court located near the entrance of Mount Vernon serving breakfast, coffee, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, vegetarian options, salads, and desserts.

    There is also a nice restaurant located inside the Mount Vernon Inn, which you can make a reservation at here.

    Strollers are allowed at Mount Vernon, with the exception of inside the mansion. 

  • Expand/Collapse Is Mount Vernon wheelchair accessible?

    The first floor of the mansion is wheelchair accessible. 

    The Ford Orientation Center, Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center and Mount Vernon Inn complex are wheelchair accessible and there there is an accessible path linking the buildings. Please note that there may be small sections of uneven pavement. 

    Standard, non-motorized wheelchairs and wheeled walkers are available free of charge inside the Ford Orientation Center.

    Mount Vernon welcomes photos of the exterior of the mansion and the beautiful grounds, but please note that photos are not allowed inside the mansion.
