The Best Sports Bars in Berlin

Winter can be rough in Berlin, everything is darker and colder and it can seem like a lonely place but don’t fear there are sports events throughout the winter to keep you occupied and warm, including the German Bundesliga, English Premiership football, Six nations rugby and for all you Americans missing a slice of home there are even bars here that regularly show NFL and NBA games. Australians are also covered with at least one bar showing the NRL and AFL and Canadians can even get to watch their favourite hockey stars.

Check out one of these bars to get your dose of sporting action over the winter months:

Belushi’s is the place to go to watch sports in Berlin. This bar/hostel has numerous screens and shows all sports. If its on TV then Belushi’s will show it, they have even been known to open in the middle of the night for those games being played on the other side of the world. Inside there is plenty of seating, a pool table, drinks specials every night of the week and they even do pub grub. This is the place to go if you are looking not only for the main games but the more obscure ones too.

Oscar Wilde Pub

Oscar Wilde’s was the first Irish pub to open in Mitte and has been quenching the thirst of ex pats and locals alike for years. People flock here to get a little taste of back home, Guinness and Newcastle brown ale are available accompanied by a shepherds pie or bangers and mash. The bar has several screens at the front and also has a large pull down screen with projector in the back room. There is a quiz night on Thursday, Live music on Fridays and Dj’s on Saturday once the games have finished.

This is the second Irish bar in mitte and centrally located. Directly under the train tracks at Hackerscher Markt, this pub has several rooms as they stretch out under the arches of the bridge. With its narrow rooms, Guinness on tap and sports on offer every week this place always has a raucous atmosphere especially if there is a Rugby game on, popular with locals and ex pats alike although is a little expensive.

Cliffs Of Doneen

This is another Irish bar but quite different from the other two. Germans absolutely love Irish bars and there are many across the city packed with locals. The first two here on this list are very popular with tourists but go to the Cliffs of Doneen to see how the locals watch sports. Here there are several screens in different rooms, pull up a chair and scream and shout along with Germans as they watch their local team or as is often the case cheer on their adopted team wherever it is in the world. There are several good beers on tap and this is definitely cheaper than the other Irish bars around. (Note: If there is a clash on TV between a German and a foreign game the German game will shown.)
