Local Market Experience: Florence Street Food Tour

Our first stop of the day is for fresh fruit!  We’ll guide you to pickup some delicious strawberries from our favorite fruit-vendor and introduce you to the owners.  This tour is made special by the local, personal stories that you will hear throughout the tour, and that’s exactly how we’ll kick things off.  You will hear directly from these wonderful artisans before sampling the very best olive oil and balsamic vinegar, followed by their famous crostini. It’s the perfect way to wake up your appetite and excite your palate. 

Next, we’ll visit the brother & sister team who run the most delicious cheese stall in the market. They will explain the context of the three local cheeses that we’ll taste with truffle-honey and pair with a glass of locally produced white wine.

From here, we’ll make our way to one of our longer stops of the day.  We’ll grab a seat right beside the market stall outside, where we’ll be served cured meats, vegetables and red wine.  While you feast, your guide will briefly disappear and return with a treat, the first of your two desserts: almond dipping biscuits (cantucci) with sweet vinsanto wine!  

After a short walk out of the market, we’ll head to one of Florence’s most highly rated street food locations to sample one more local speciality: coccoli with creamy stracchino cheese and the finest Tuscan prosciutto.  At this point you will be quite full, but that just means that it’s time to activate the reserve “gelato stomach”!

On this thoughtfully curated food tour, we are intentionally steering clear of the more classic Italian dishes like pasta and pizza to give you a unique window into the best of the local cuisine.  But hey, we all agree that gelato can never be cliché.
