The Best Bars in Neukolln, Berlin

The Best Bars in Neukolln, Berlin

Berlin is a BIG city and sometimes it can be a little overwhelming where to start. So many choices, such little time. Where to eat, where to drink, where to sleep and where to party?  I have compiled a list of the best places (according to us!) on where to eat and drink once our tours have finished.

Where to drink in…..Neukölln

Neukolln is a district which is slightly off the tourist trail as it isn’t the most accessible, however it is fast becoming Berlins coolest area. Bars down here are on the simple side, mismatched wooden furniture and bare walls are the norm. Try out these bars for great night out in Neukolln.

Ä

This bar is situated on Weserstrasse, probably the street in Neukolln for bars and Ä attracts a mixture of ex pats and locals, there is always something going on here. The light is dark and mostly you navigate by candle light. The bar has a full program of events including open mic nights, bands, table football and they even have a basement they open for dancing on the weekends. Check out their website for listings.

Das Gift

Mogwai’s Barry Burns decided to refurbish an old Neukolln pub a couple of years ago with his wife and now people flock to this trendy bar to try out his Scottish specialties including specially imported Scottish whiskeys and beers and you can even get salt and vinegar crisps! Makes a change from the usual Paprika!

The bar has a full list of events including late-night DJ sets, after-parties and pub quizzes and as is usual in this part of Berlin the light is dark and the furniture simple, the owners however have tried to keep some of the original features inside. There is also food on offer.

Klunkerkranich

Only in Berlin! This bar/music venue is located on the top of a multi storey car park on top of a shopping arcade!

Take the lift up to the car park, keep walking up the curved slope until eventually you reach the top with a splendid view over the rooftops of Neukölln. The terrace is covered with wooden structures, such as those often found in Berlin parks, bars and clubs. You can stay out on the terrace and watch the sunset behind Berlins huge TV tower or head inside and listen to live bands (charge may apply). In the summer it’s a great place to listen to musicians, who play on a stage set in the middle of the terrace; whereas in the winter there’s a Christmas market and a indoor bar. Definitely a place that makes you say ‘wow’.

Sameheads

Started by three, young, English brothers this place has it all. Bar, club, gallery space, comedy venue and boutique. The walls are adorned with all sorts of distinguishable and often non distinguishable items, no one really takes themselves seriously here and every night of the week there is an event for the locals to get their teeth stuck in to. The crowd here is mostly an ex pat crowd and their movie nights and Thursday night quiz have become somewhat legendary. Check out their website for full listings.
