Fun that Doesn’t Break the Bank
Don’t want to have your fun sequestered, either? Well, that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the weekend fun or cancel that vacation! Although rent and hotel prices in DC can be pretty high, believe it or not, DC is one of the best cities to stretch a buck. We got a few ideas for making the most out of your time in the city. Whether you are a local, a weekend traveler, or coming from across the world, these spots are worth checking out. We’ll be checking in over the next few weeks with a new post on things like cheap eats, drinks, experiences, and culture. This week, we’ll be figuring out the best places for a date night around DC without spending your whole paycheck on one meal!
Date Night
DC has some of the best and most expensive restaurants in the country. But its also a foodies paradise and literally filled with unique, local restaurants that offer great date experiences on the cheap. Forget the Applebees Two for $20 meal, Pizzeria Paradiso in Georgetown and Dupont Circle serves up two beers and a pizza for $20.13! And their beer selection is always top notch! And Dangerously Delicious Pies in the Atlas District (H Street NE), serves up two savory pies, two sweet pies and two sodas for just $22!
Want to take in a show, but don’t want to break the bank. Well Ticketplace DC is a clearing house for half priced Theater tickets. From big shows to community theater, you can find the best deals there. Maybe, free is more your style? Did you know Kennedy Center offers FREE shows EVERY NIGHT! Seriously, their Millennium Stage has something free every night! Need a little wine with all this extra culture? There is Bistro Lepic in Georgetown. Every Tuesday, they offer customers two free glasses of French wines or Champagnes. There’s a representative from the winery to answer questions and most importantly, 20% off wine at the bar all night!
What’s more romantic then a little ice skating at night under the lights of the monuments? Did you know that there is more than one place in DC to ice skate outdoors during the winter? Our favorite is the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, right across from the National Archives and directly on the National Mall. In a close second, mainly due to its proximity to one of our favorite date spots (Farmers, Fishers, and Bakers) is the brand new Washington Harbor Skate Rink in Georgetown. Also, new this year is the Canal Park Skate Rink in the Southeast Waterfront (by Nationals Park), a cool new rink in an up and coming neighborhood. Be sure to check when the skate rinks are open… we only have a few more weeks left of skating before spring!
Also recommended… Oysters! DC Loves its oysters! (Some have even argued that they are an aphrodisiac!) Hanks Oyster Bar in Dupont Circle and Old Town Alexandria has $1 Oysters during Happy Hour. Not to mention Clyde’s of Gallery Place as well as Old Ebbitt Grill do a half priced raw bar everyday from 3pm-6pm and 11pm-1am.
