Romantic French Words and Phrases
French is known as one of the most romantic languages in the world, and has some of the most beautiful expressions. If you’re coming to Paris with your spouse or someone special, why not surprise them by learning a few phrases en français!
The most common expression you’ll hear in France if you happen to be an attractive young lady, or accompanied by one, is “vous étes charmante!” (you’re cute) or “vous étes ravissante!” (you’re stunning). As a general rule this phrase normally comes across as a bit creepy when whispered by strangers on the sidewalk. Keep on walking.
Now let’s move on to the sincere and genuine French expressions of affection…
Je t’aime
One of my favorite expressions is “avoir un coup de foudre pour [someone]”, which means to fall madly in love. A “coup de foudre” is a lightening bolt. You can also “avoir un coup de foudre” for inanimate objects, like a pair of shoes (in case you’re heading to Paris on a singles shopping trip.)
Just like in English, your significant other may be “l’amour de ta vie” (the love of your life), and “ton amour est aussi précieux que l’or” (your love is as precious as gold). Let’s get even more hyperbolic and state that we can “vivre d’amour et d’eau fraîche” (live on love and cold water)
Waxing Lyrical

Love Letter
What about if you’re writing a letter or email? While a familiar way to end a note is “bisoux” (kisses), if you want to get more sentiment into your closing line, try “A toi, pour toujours” (yours forever).
If in doubt, the best line clearly has to be “Embrasse-moi!” which simply means… KISS ME!
It goes without saying that the most romantic place in Paris is at the top of the Eiffel Tower! But 3 hours of queuing – a lot less romantic. Beat the crowds with a skip the line tour, and get a private tour of the tower!
