Where to Go Ice Skating in Paris This Winter
Are you coming to Paris in the winter? If so, you’re in for even more of a treat… so get your skates on, it’s time for your debut in “Paris on Ice”!
Every winter, Paris plays host to several temporary ice-skating rinks, open to the general public. This year there are three main locations, hugely popular among both tourists and Parisians alike. Dress warm and in style before hitting these popular ice skating rinks.
Hôtel de Ville
From December 21 to March 2, right outside the stunning Town Hall – nothing like any other town hall you’ve ever seen – you’ll find an ice-skating rink. Admission is free but, unless you just happen to have packed yours, skates cost 5 euro to rent. It’s open until late, and the best time to go is in the late afternoon or evening, when the sun goes down and the Hôtel de Ville is lit up in all her glory!
Champs Elysées
At the bottom of the Champs Elysées, near the Place de la Concorde, the “Patinoire des Cinq Continents” (Five Continents Skating Rink) is hidden between the stalls and amusement stands of the annual Christmas Market. So after practicing your pirouettes, you can warm yourself up with a glass of hot wine and a crepe. It opens on November 15, and closes on January 5, and costs 10 euro (8 for kids) including skates.
Trocadero
Now surely this has to be the best of the bunch… What do you think about skating opposite the Eiffel Tower? No, I’m not lying, you’ll find an ice-skating rink immediately opposite le tour Eiffel, across the river at Trocadero. It used to be on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower itself, but this year they are renovating, so the ice rink has moved across the Seine. The advantage? You get to see the tower light up and glitter (after dark, once an hour), have the opportunity to visit a Christmas Village, and there are also two shows to check out, especially if you’re with the family, on December 12 and 19 at 6 pm called “Trocadero on Ice”. Like at Hôtel de Ville, entry is free, skates cost 5 euros.
