With so much to do in Paris, it can be hard to take cues from French culture and the way it values taking time to simply contemplate. Eiffel Tower
No matter how many times you see it, there really is something magical about the Eiffel Tower all lit up. The sheer size of this Paris landmark is breathtaking, and when it begins to glitter (every hour, on the hour) there’s nearly no camera that can do it justice. Get off at metro Trocadero to view the tower from across the Trocadero Gardens, or gaze at it from the lawn, Champs de Mars, that spreads out in front.

Montmartre
The Sacre Coeur Basilica is one of Paris’s most picturesque sights, and it only becomes more brilliant in the evening hours when it becomes illuminated. Make your way up the many steps to the top of the hill, where you’ll have a view of the entire city. The lawn is also a great place to stop for a picnic and watch the sun set.
A picnic or walk along the Seine
The city of Paris has been doing work on the quais along its iconic river Seine, and it’s finally time to reap the benefits. Stop off anywhere from Notre Dame Cathedral to Hotel de Ville for a leisurely stroll or a picnic along the water’s edge. When the bridges begin to light up as darkness falls, you’ll witness Paris’s true magic.
Buttes Chaumont park
Get away from the center of the city for an evening in this park, loved by locals in the eastern neighborhoods. The hilly spot has dozens of paths for walks, and plenty of nooks and crannies for picnics. Test your endurance and climb to the top, where you’ll be rewarded with a view of Paris and its nearby suburbs. Perfect for watching the sun set.

La Peniche Antipode
Stay in the east of the city and head to the Canal Saint Martin, host of several scenes in the movie Amelie and a relaxing evening spot. Grab a drink at Antipode, an out-of-service barge that now acts as a bar for local hipsters. As the lights twinkle along the boat’s helm, you’ll get a view of the canal along with your inexpensive drink.
