Private Rome Bike Tour

Private Rome Bike Tour

If you are looking for a unique way to see and experience Rome, allow us to organize a private tour that includes all of the main sites in a 3 hour fun-filled cycle.  See the famous landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Pantheon and many more! You will have a guide all to yourself, allowing you more time at the stops that interest you most, and less time spent waiting around for others.  Your guide will share the history of each site with you in a fun and easy-to-understand way that will make you want to keep learning about this beautiful city well after the tour is over.  Plus, we will be happy to take you to the best spots for amazing photo opportunities.

The historic center of Rome has so much to offer that it can be difficult to take it in on foot.  We can easily cruise from the Imperial Forums to the Circus Maximus on our comfy city bikes and still have time to stop for some pizza or gelato; or both!  You can let us know the occasion for your trip; a family reunion or birthday celebration, or just a getaway, and we’ll be sure to pair you with the best guide for your group and tailor your experience so that it is the most memorable part of your Italian vacation.

Our guides are locals who know and love their city, and they want to show it off to you!  Learn about the hidden gems of Rome and experience breathtaking views of the city from various vantage points.  On a private tour, we can access so much more of the city, and spend extra time taking it all in.

In addition to your private guided bicycle tour, we are happy to organize skip-the-line entry into the Colosseum or include an exclusive wine tasting just for you; simply let us know if you have other ‘must-do’s’ on your list and allow us to create the perfect bespoke experience for you in Rome.  Our guides can point out the best restaurants, neighborhoods, and museums to see after the tour is over so that you don’t miss out on anything.

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

This tour meets at our office, located at Via dei Delfini 35/36, Rome. We are about a 5 minute walk from Piazza Venezia.

  • Expand/Collapse What cycling skill level do I need for this tour?

While all of our tours maintain a leisurely pace, we want our guests to have fun and be safe, so being able to ride a bike is paramount.

Our Rome Bike Tour is perfect for intermediate bike riders. You should have good balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. Most of this tour is on roads and although we stick together as a group and carve out a lane for ourselves, we ask that all guests feel confident with their riding ability. The road surfaces in Rome vary and may include cobbled streets as well as smooth gravel and pavement.

Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety.

If you're not sure how you'll fare, we invite you to come to our office about 30 minutes prior to your tour start time to try the bikes.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour appropriate for children?

Yes! This bike tour is a wonderful way for kids comfortable on bikes to discover Rome. We only ask that your children have been riding for a while, are comfortable riding in a group, and can navigate riding a bike on various surfaces including cobbled streets.

Please keep in mind that children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.  You can see a bike chart of all kid's bikes and accessories available here

    • We have various sized city bikes to accommodate just about every size of rider, from extra small 20 inch wheeled bikes for riders that are 3.3ft (100cm) to extra large for riders up to 6.5ft (198cm).
    • Unfortunately, we do not have tricycles, tandems, or bikes with training wheels for adults or children that may be less confident in their riding ability.
    • Due to limited availability, please book 20” and 24” wheeled bikes in advance.
    • Please Note: All extra small 20 inch and small 24 inch bikes are equipped with hand brakes.
  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

Fat Tire Tours offers 100% refunds if the Private Tour reservation is cancelled at least 7 days prior to the scheduled tour, less the cost of any non-refundable tickets already acquired (e.g. Colosseum, Vatican, etc.).

Inside of 7 days, we will do our best to reschedule your tour based on the availability of equipment, tickets, and tour guides. Once we are within 72 hours of the scheduled tour, we are unable to make any modifications to your tour and we do not offer any refunds.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your weather policy? What if it rains?

Our tours run rain or shine, and we have rain ponchos available in our office free of cost. We encourage all guests to consult the weather forecast and plan your dress accordingly.

In the summer months, please prepare for the heat by bringing/wearing adequate sun protection, and staying hydrated. Even if you are accustomed to high temperatures, air-conditioning is not always available in Italy.

  • Expand/Collapse Is a helmet included? Do I have to wear one?

Helmets are provided, however in Italy adults are not compelled by law to wear a helmet. We have helmets of all sizes available in our office.

Studies have shown that helmets can reduce head injuries by at least 85%.

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

Yes, reservations are required for all tours.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour offered in any other languages, or only English?

We would be happy to pair you with a guide that speaks your preferred language.  While we cannot guarantee that every language will be available, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] prior to booking to check on guide availabiltiy for the day you'd like to travel, or let us know your language preference in the comments of your booking.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

Unfortunately, the tour duration does not give us enough time to enter any of the sites that we see on on tour. This tour is designed to enjoy the city from a broad perspective and come away with a greater understanding of its history and layout.

  • Expand/Collapse What is the number to call if I am lost and trying to find the meeting point?

If you are having difficulty finding the meeting location for your tour, please call us at +39 338 309 7398 and our staff will be happy to help you find your way.

  • Expand/Collapse Can you accommodate specific private tour requests?

  • Expand/Collapse What time do I need to get there for my tour?

We ask that all guests arrive 10-15 minutes early for the scheduled tour.

This gives us time to get all of our guests checked-in, fitted correctly for bikes, and a chance to get comfortable on your bike before we take off.
