FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

No, reservations are not required but we do appreciate bookings in advance. We keep 10-12 spots open for those who decide to tour with us at the last minute. Please do your best to arrive at the Queensway meeting point a little early to claim your spot.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 72 hour cancellation policy for a full refund. If you miss the tour for any reason, we'll gladly reschedule you on another available tour anytime for up to a year. If you can't make it, it is a good idea to email us ahead of time.

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

Directly outside Queensway tube station, which is on the Central Line (the red line cutting across the map from east to west). 15 minutes before the start of the tour, one of our guides will be standing by the red phone boxes holding a Fat Tyre sign.

  • Expand/Collapse Do tours run all year round?

Yes, from November to March we will run tours on a reduced schedule at 11am from Thursdays to Mondays, inclusive. Please see the tour page for full details.

  • Expand/Collapse Is the tour difficult?

No. Most of the time is spent on bike lanes within the Royal Parks. There is a bit of road riding and a few crossings so a basic level of cycling proficiency is required.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your weather policy?

We run tours rain or shine and have plenty of rain ponchos. We find tours in the rain to be a different kind of fun and an even more fun memory! If you have a reservation and the weather is really bad, you are welcome to reschedule the tour for any other day for up to year.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we stop for lunch?

Yes. We usually stop near Trafalgar Square where there are plenty of options for lunch including to join your guide at a traditional English pub. Otherwise, we may stop in St James park next to a cafe.

  • Expand/Collapse Where does the tour end?

Both tours finish at the same place they start.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

No, the bike tours are an overview of the sites and more about getting a feel for the city. However, on private tours you can arrange to take extra time at the sites if you'd like to go inside.

  • Expand/Collapse Will we be able to take photos?

Yes. There will be a chance to take many photos at the designated stops.

  • Expand/Collapse Is there a space to store bags or luggage?

Yes. You are welcome to leave bags, luggage or unwanted family members in our garages. Someone is usually in the office and it will be locked up if they have to leave. While we have never had a single case of theft or loss of items, you do leave them at your own risk.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you provide the bikes?

    Absolutely.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I supply my own bike?

You are welcome to bring your own bicycle and will receive a discount of 10%. Our insurance only covers the theft of our own bicycles, so please do bring your own lock for the lunch stop.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you have children's bikes?

Yes. We have kids bikes, tag-alongs and baby seats. Please make a reservation online if you have children in your group and let us know how many are with you, and their ages, in the NOTES section of your reservation - this way we can make sure we have the right sized bikes set aside for everyone in your group.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour appropriate for children?

Absolutely! We have loads of families and we're a great family activity. We offer multiple bike options for children depending on their age, size, and riding ability. Please keep in mind that children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

    • For children up to 12 years old or 45kg (100lbs) without good bike handling skills we offer 2-wheeled tandems that allow the passenger to pedal or coast, without having to maintain a high level of balance. All riders over 45kg (100lbs) must ride their own bicycle. We have various sized city bikes to accommodate just about every size of rider, from extra small 20 inch wheeled bikes for riders that are 3.3ft (100cm) to extra large for riders up to 6.5ft (198cm). Unfortunately, we do not have adult tricycles, adult tandems, or bikes with training wheels for adults or children that may be less confident in their riding ability.
    • There is no additional charge for trailers, tandems or baby seats. Due to limited availability, please book baby seats, trailers, tandems, 20” and 24” wheeled bikes in advance.
    • Please Note: All extra small 20 inch and small 24 inch bikes are equipped with both hand brakes.
    • Our city tours are very casual, with only slight elevation changes on varying surfaces including smooth gravel and pavement. It is necessary, however, that any person participating in our bike tours have at least some bike riding experience, and should be comfortable riding in a group.
  • Expand/Collapse Is a helmet included?

Yes. You are not compelled by law to wear helmets in the UK, but we have more than enough for everyone so the choice is entirely yours.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you rent bikes?

Yes, but, you must contact us ahead of time, especially during the summer when all the bikes may be taken up on the tours.

  • Expand/Collapse Can you suggest a bicycle repair shop in London?

Our very excellent mechanic, Alex, is available to work on your bike so please feel free to get in contact with us if you would like to book your bike in with him: http://www.lezcycles.com/about.html

Royal London Bike Tour Reviews

Royal London Bike Tour - 11AM is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 216.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Entertaining and easy Our tour guide, Stephanie, was kind, witty and dull of interesting stories! We've been laughing about "tapping the admiral"!! We did the tour the same day we landed and we are so glad we did! We saw many of the "big" London sites and it has made us feel comfortable getting around the for rest of our stay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike tour around London This was our 1st time in London and we were able to go around the city with the tour, we really enjoyed the stories about the royalty and the city, beautiful buildings and monuments and Paul, our tour guide, was great. I felt safe all the time, London is a great city to bike around, plenty of parks and bike paths. Thank you very much :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tour, interesting guide I purchased this for my family (3 teenaged boys and myself) to burn off some energy. Tour lasted about 3 hours (had to gear up and we had a 30 min lunch in there) and was really informative. So worth the price - would love to do again in another city.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome parks tour - Dominic was great! My family of six went on the "parks" tour and had wonderful time. Dominic was wonderful, charming, and witty. The team was on time at the train station meeting area and the tour lasted the expected time. Although typical London weather (wet and cold in June) we had an absolute blast. Thanks everyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tour and guide! My son and I did the royal tour. It was a great tour and our tour guide, Matt was fantastic. My son is 14, the tour guide kept his attention the entire time. My son loved the history he gave as well as the funny antidotes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Take the bike tour! Thoroughly enjoyed the London bike tour! The staff were very friendly. Jaime, staff, texted me perfect Underground directions which included connecting to another "tube" line for the meeting spot to meet the group. It was easy and I took the tour on my own. Paul, the guide, was amusing and gave interesting facts throughout the tour. He even mentioned that he would be in the 2nd episode on Season 2 in Netflix's the "Crown". My husband and I have done all 4 Fat Tire bike tours in London, Paris, Berlin and Barcelona and got their free t shirt for taking all 4 city bike tours. I highly recommend all of their bike tours in the 4 cities...informative, nice staff and reliable bikes!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good trip Glad we participated and made the purchase, good alternative to bus trip. Great guide who made it enjoyable (Stewart) We should have inquired about age group as there were younger members 7 years old in our group which did impact the departure time. Stewart was great and by the end we all worked together and enjoyed the trip. I did not appreciate the late departure time as we made a point of getting there on time but other participants did not so we headed to the shop at 11:15 and departed at 11:30 afternoon figuring out bike arrangements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tour. Great guide Our guide Steph had a great sense of humor, can change a tire lickity split, and clearly loves the history of her city London! The staff was laid back, friendly and helpful. I was her for work and the tour was my only personal adventure. I am so thrilled with my experience.
