FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

No, reservations are not required but we do appreciate bookings in advance. We keep 10-12 spots open for those who decide to tour with us at the last minute. Please do your best to arrive at the Queensway meeting point a little early to claim your spot.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 72 hour cancellation policy for a full refund. If you miss the tour for any reason, we'll gladly reschedule you on another available tour anytime for up to a year. If you can't make it, it is a good idea to email us ahead of time.

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

Directly outside Queensway tube station, which is on the Central Line (the red line cutting across the map from east to west). 15 minutes before the start of the tour, one of our guides will be standing by the red phone boxes holding a Fat Tyre sign.

  • Expand/Collapse Do tours run all year round?

Yes, from November to March we will run tours on a reduced schedule at 11am from Thursdays to Mondays, inclusive. Please see the tour page for full details.

  • Expand/Collapse Is the tour difficult?

No. Most of the time is spent on bike lanes within the Royal Parks. There is a bit of road riding and a few crossings so a basic level of cycling proficiency is required.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your weather policy?

We run tours rain or shine and have plenty of rain ponchos. We find tours in the rain to be a different kind of fun and an even more fun memory! If you have a reservation and the weather is really bad, you are welcome to reschedule the tour for any other day for up to year.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we stop for lunch?

Yes. We usually stop near Trafalgar Square where there are plenty of options for lunch including to join your guide at a traditional English pub. Otherwise, we may stop in St James park next to a cafe.

  • Expand/Collapse Where does the tour end?

Both tours finish at the same place they start.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

No, the bike tours are an overview of the sites and more about getting a feel for the city. However, on private tours you can arrange to take extra time at the sites if you'd like to go inside.

  • Expand/Collapse Will we be able to take photos?

Yes. There will be a chance to take many photos at the designated stops.

  • Expand/Collapse Is there a space to store bags or luggage?

Yes. You are welcome to leave bags, luggage or unwanted family members in our garages. Someone is usually in the office and it will be locked up if they have to leave. While we have never had a single case of theft or loss of items, you do leave them at your own risk.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you provide the bikes?

    Absolutely.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I supply my own bike?

You are welcome to bring your own bicycle and will receive a discount of 10%. Our insurance only covers the theft of our own bicycles, so please do bring your own lock for the lunch stop.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you have children's bikes?

Yes. We have kids bikes, tag-alongs and baby seats. Please make a reservation online if you have children in your group and let us know how many are with you, and their ages, in the NOTES section of your reservation - this way we can make sure we have the right sized bikes set aside for everyone in your group.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour appropriate for children?

Absolutely! We have loads of families and we're a great family activity. We offer multiple bike options for children depending on their age, size, and riding ability. Please keep in mind that children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

    • For children up to 12 years old or 45kg (100lbs) without good bike handling skills we offer 2-wheeled tandems that allow the passenger to pedal or coast, without having to maintain a high level of balance. All riders over 45kg (100lbs) must ride their own bicycle. We have various sized city bikes to accommodate just about every size of rider, from extra small 20 inch wheeled bikes for riders that are 3.3ft (100cm) to extra large for riders up to 6.5ft (198cm). Unfortunately, we do not have adult tricycles, adult tandems, or bikes with training wheels for adults or children that may be less confident in their riding ability.
    • There is no additional charge for trailers, tandems or baby seats. Due to limited availability, please book baby seats, trailers, tandems, 20” and 24” wheeled bikes in advance.
    • Please Note: All extra small 20 inch and small 24 inch bikes are equipped with both hand brakes.
    • Our city tours are very casual, with only slight elevation changes on varying surfaces including smooth gravel and pavement. It is necessary, however, that any person participating in our bike tours have at least some bike riding experience, and should be comfortable riding in a group.
  • Expand/Collapse Is a helmet included?

Yes. You are not compelled by law to wear helmets in the UK, but we have more than enough for everyone so the choice is entirely yours.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you rent bikes?

Yes, but, you must contact us ahead of time, especially during the summer when all the bikes may be taken up on the tours.

  • Expand/Collapse Can you suggest a bicycle repair shop in London?

Our very excellent mechanic, Alex, is available to work on your bike so please feel free to get in contact with us if you would like to book your bike in with him: http://www.lezcycles.com/about.html

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FANTASTIC TOUR! A Definite MUST! We did our first FatTire tour in Barcelona. It was so good we knew we had to do another one with our 4 teenagers in London. It was Fantastic! Our guide ( Matt) was funny and made the historical information entertaining. The sights we visited were perfect, the route was easy and the pace was relaxing. Wish they had tours in more cities! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for kids and adults to learn about the royal I set this tour up at the beginning of our stay to get some good interesting history and make sure we saw a good number of the important royal castles and buildings. Perfect. 9 year old had her own bike. 7 year old probably could have. The tour is largely flat with no steep hills. About 10 minutes are on roads. the rest on park bike lanes. Matt was our guide. He was professional and interesting. He kept my kids entertained.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sampler of London's must sees This is the second fat tire tour I've been on, both were equally amazing and memorable. Nick was very knowledgeable and a wonderful tour guide. A bike tour is the perfect way to fit in so much. 100% recommend fat tire tours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant, informative and fun! As a Christmas present this was something we hadn't chosen to do and went with no idea what to expect. How pleasantly surprised we were, we discovered loads about London we never knew, including how great and numerous the cycle paths are! Our guide Matt was full of knowledge and made the whole experience really interesting. The relaxed pace and flat routes made it accessible to all. We would highly recommend this to anyone giving it thought. Thank you Fat Tires London - we loved it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice tour We arrived in London in Saturday morning and took this tour Sunday. After several more days in London, I am pleased to advise you that this tour is a must do when in London. Several of the more notable iconic places are on this trip. The best part is that you cover a lot of London in 4 hours by bike. Not by foot. The pace is good but relaxing. The guide did a nice job educating us and keeping us on track. We got a lot of nice pictures on the tour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to see the city! I'm really glad I chose to see London's major sites with Fat Tire Tours. It would have taken me days to see what a professional tour guide and friendly local helped me see in only a few hours. And at then end of it I worked up an appetite for fish and chips, too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Adventure I purchased this adventure over two months ago for my husband and I, it was well worth the wait. We had a brilliant day. Nick our leader was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I had not told my husband what to expect and he was very surprised and delighted at the number of sights we visited. We were in a group of 19, young and old, and everyone said it was a brilliant experience and one they would hope to do again in another country.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tour Great way to see the sights of London! Hyde park and Kensington gardens are beautiful! You aren't on the streets of London much, and as such, it's easy to get turned around. But it was still great and Max was a great tour guide!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Royal London tour is great This is my second time using a Fat Tire tour and it was excellent. We had a fairly large group but Max did a great job of keeping us to together. The information he provided was top notch. I even got to look smart on a comply different tour by spouting off one of his facts. The bikes are comfortable 3-speeds and the ride is flat. You bike mostly in parks. The few road crossings are super simple. This is a very easy trip. We had several children in our group. Thanks Max for a great day. Cheers, Jacob

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Way to Start Off Your Visit London! A friend and I did this tour our second day in London. It was extremely informational and helpful to know what it was we were looking at. This tour also helped us to know what we needed to go back see again and what we didn't. One thing I will say is that the tour is about 8 miles long (plenty of stops along the way so it didn't seem that long) which we didn't know before starting the tour. So keep this in mind in terms of time and energy it will take. Overall I would absolutely recommend this at the beginning of your trip!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Knowledgeable guide! We landed at Heathrow and made our way directly to the Fat Tire Tour location. These guys were great as we waited for the tour to begin. They stored our luggage during the ride, which was a nice convenience. The ride was the perfect activity after our 8 hour plane ride. Most of the ride was through London parks and our guide Nicholas was full of stories and history about London. We would highly recommend this tour!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Great way to experience the city! Loved it! Yet again, I thought this was such an efficient and fun way to see a city. I'd done a Fat Tire tour in Berlin and decided to try it out in London! John was a humorous and informative tour guide. He definitely illuminated the quirks and mishaps of history that I wouldn't have know had I just wandered around on my own! He was also great at answering any questions that came up, even the unconventional ones! Plus, this was a solo trip to London for me, so a tour was a great way to meet fellow travelers and to see the city, worry-free of getting lost! My constructive criticism for John, who was a great character and who was very knowledgeable, would be to take into account the pace of the group (especially the people in the back) and slow down if the group seems to be lagging and peddling a bit slower. At times our pace felt a little too speedy, as it was hard to enjoy the views. Of course, I can also understand the time frame and the chilly weather were factors! Overall, I highly recommend this tour! BRAVO!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great London experience! Great customer service pre-tour, lovely bike shop team, good kit and a fantastic friendly and knowledgeable Guide. Adults and kids (age 10) thoroughly enjoyed the Royal London Parks Tour, seeing and learning about the sights. We would highly recommend it :-)
