FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

No, reservations are not required but we do appreciate bookings in advance. We keep 10-12 spots open for those who decide to tour with us at the last minute. Please do your best to arrive at the Queensway meeting point a little early to claim your spot.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 72 hour cancellation policy for a full refund. If you miss the tour for any reason, we'll gladly reschedule you on another available tour anytime for up to a year. If you can't make it, it is a good idea to email us ahead of time.

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

Directly outside Queensway tube station, which is on the Central Line (the red line cutting across the map from east to west). 15 minutes before the start of the tour, one of our guides will be standing by the red phone boxes holding a Fat Tyre sign.

  • Expand/Collapse Do tours run all year round?

Yes, from November to March we will run tours on a reduced schedule at 11am from Thursdays to Mondays, inclusive. Please see the tour page for full details.

  • Expand/Collapse Is the tour difficult?

No. Most of the time is spent on bike lanes within the Royal Parks. There is a bit of road riding and a few crossings so a basic level of cycling proficiency is required.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your weather policy?

We run tours rain or shine and have plenty of rain ponchos. We find tours in the rain to be a different kind of fun and an even more fun memory! If you have a reservation and the weather is really bad, you are welcome to reschedule the tour for any other day for up to year.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we stop for lunch?

Yes. We usually stop near Trafalgar Square where there are plenty of options for lunch including to join your guide at a traditional English pub. Otherwise, we may stop in St James park next to a cafe.

  • Expand/Collapse Where does the tour end?

Both tours finish at the same place they start.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

No, the bike tours are an overview of the sites and more about getting a feel for the city. However, on private tours you can arrange to take extra time at the sites if you'd like to go inside.

  • Expand/Collapse Will we be able to take photos?

Yes. There will be a chance to take many photos at the designated stops.

  • Expand/Collapse Is there a space to store bags or luggage?

Yes. You are welcome to leave bags, luggage or unwanted family members in our garages. Someone is usually in the office and it will be locked up if they have to leave. While we have never had a single case of theft or loss of items, you do leave them at your own risk.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you provide the bikes?

    Absolutely.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I supply my own bike?

You are welcome to bring your own bicycle and will receive a discount of 10%. Our insurance only covers the theft of our own bicycles, so please do bring your own lock for the lunch stop.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you have children's bikes?

Yes. We have kids bikes, tag-alongs and baby seats. Please make a reservation online if you have children in your group and let us know how many are with you, and their ages, in the NOTES section of your reservation - this way we can make sure we have the right sized bikes set aside for everyone in your group.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour appropriate for children?

Absolutely! We have loads of families and we're a great family activity. We offer multiple bike options for children depending on their age, size, and riding ability. Please keep in mind that children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

    • For children up to 12 years old or 45kg (100lbs) without good bike handling skills we offer 2-wheeled tandems that allow the passenger to pedal or coast, without having to maintain a high level of balance. All riders over 45kg (100lbs) must ride their own bicycle. We have various sized city bikes to accommodate just about every size of rider, from extra small 20 inch wheeled bikes for riders that are 3.3ft (100cm) to extra large for riders up to 6.5ft (198cm). Unfortunately, we do not have adult tricycles, adult tandems, or bikes with training wheels for adults or children that may be less confident in their riding ability.
    • There is no additional charge for trailers, tandems or baby seats. Due to limited availability, please book baby seats, trailers, tandems, 20” and 24” wheeled bikes in advance.
    • Please Note: All extra small 20 inch and small 24 inch bikes are equipped with both hand brakes.
    • Our city tours are very casual, with only slight elevation changes on varying surfaces including smooth gravel and pavement. It is necessary, however, that any person participating in our bike tours have at least some bike riding experience, and should be comfortable riding in a group.
  • Expand/Collapse Is a helmet included?

Yes. You are not compelled by law to wear helmets in the UK, but we have more than enough for everyone so the choice is entirely yours.

  • Expand/Collapse Do you rent bikes?

Yes, but, you must contact us ahead of time, especially during the summer when all the bikes may be taken up on the tours.

  • Expand/Collapse Can you suggest a bicycle repair shop in London?

Our very excellent mechanic, Alex, is available to work on your bike so please feel free to get in contact with us if you would like to book your bike in with him: http://www.lezcycles.com/about.html

Royal London Bike Tour Reviews

Royal London Bike Tour - 11AM is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 216.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great family outing We did this with our daughters, ages 11 and 13, and we all enjoyed it. We often do a bike tour our first day in a new city, and this one was great getting us acquainted with the city and major sites. Our guide, Daniel, was great and had lots of great information.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enthusiastic, friendly guide I did the royal gardens bike tour with Gerard a few days ago, and it was just lovely. A small group of us, which was pleasant. The guide, Gerard, is the best guide I have had through all my tours. He was friendly, excited about history and giving recommendations, all of which I followed and were perfect. As he was the local I spoke to the most, he was easy to ask cultural questions of (re: university, taxes, tipping, tourist vs. authentic experience). I did the bike tour alone (my traveling partner needed a nap), and I felt very welcomed and not all awkward. He had a thorough working knowledge of history and did a great job of connecting the dots between each locale. I give this an enthusiastic and whole hearted 5 stars.

We saw all the major sights and stopped periodically to learn about the palaces and landmarks we were seeing. We also learned so much about the history of London. Part of the tour is riding through several beautiful parks and the scenery was spectacular. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much fun! We did both the Bike Tour along the Thames and the Royal Bike Tour. Both were excellent and our guides were so knowledgeable and interesting. They also kept everyone safe and together. We had our college-aged kids with us and we all had a blast!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great way to see major cities! We did two tours with Fat Tire while visiting Europe - Paris and London. Both were excellent, though the bikes were seemingly newer in Paris. We found it a great way to get to know the cities. You don't necessarily get the best photo ops (can be difficult when dealing with crazy traffic, a group, and bikes), but it's still a great experience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Different way to see the sights Had an excellent experience. The guide, Matt was fantastic - my wife did fall off (when stationary) and Matt and a few others were amazing! My poor wife was more embarrassed as opposed to physically hurt. I would definitely try another one of their tours!
