This exclusive skip-the-line tour takes our customers directly into the underbelly of Paris, the now world-famous maze of tunnels that make up the mysterious and dark underground world of the Parisian Catacombs. This late eighteenth century project of relocating the city’s cemeteries to an underground quarry has allowed us a fascinating opportunity to observe and learn about myriad topics including famous French men & women located here, the geology of Paris, and the drastic changes in urban planning based on political upheavals throughout and following the French Revolution. Of course, you’ll also learn about how and why the largest cemetery in Paris was created and have a chance to gaze at the beautifully arranged facades and columns on display in the ossuary.
Take care to note that we’ll be descending 131 steps as we enter the Catacombs and ascending 112 on our way towards the exit. The deep and winding corridors encourage a somber yet solemn respect for those whose lives have come to an end. You will be face to face with the bones of over six million people from all walks of life and from various centuries’ past. This visit allows guests a chance to reflect on the meaning of life away from the hustle and bustle of Parisian streets, or simply to admire the displays and artistry used when installing these remains. Due to the limited number of guests allowed inside the Catacombs at any given moment, you will enjoy walking the corridors with our small group, moving freely throughout the quarries.
Our guided tour offers you sections of the Catacombs that are not open to the general public, ensuring you an even more unique experience. Your personal guide will provide anecdotes and history throughout the walk via a headset so that you can stroll, admire, and learn simultaneously.
The Catacombs are located in a popular area of Paris called Denfert-Rochereau which offers several bars & cafés where, following the tour, you can continue your afternoon in true Parisian style. Our guides are more than happy to provide you with information that will help you to get the most out of the beautiful ‘City of Light’.
