Segway Experience Tour

Glide through D.C. on the Segway Experience Tour

If you’re short on time, but still want to see some of Washington D.C.’s most famous sites, our introductory Segway Tour is perfect for you! You’ll begin at our centrally located office where your tour guide will get oriented with your ride for the day: the Segway.  We include a helmet, a water bottle, and a fun knowledgeable guide on every tour.  After a brief training session and only once everyone is comfortable, you’ll hit the streets of the Nation’s Capital in style and breeze between a number of it’s iconic landmarks.

This tour features stops at the U.S. Capitol Building, the Washington Monument, the World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and more! Along the way, your upbeat and engaging guide will tell you all about the history, urban legends, and anecdotes that make each site so remarkable.  We’ll cruise along the National Mall and circle the Tidal Basin, giving you an opportunity to take in most of the D.C. landmarks that make this city iconic.

With two tour departures offered daily year round and three in the summer, you can choose whether to joining us for an early morning ride, an afternoon spin around town, or an evening glide to take in the city as the sun begins to set.  If you’ll be joining us in the spring, you may even get a chance to see the beautiful cherry blossoms in bloom!  Whichever option you choose, you’ll come away knowing more about these sites and having a deeper appreciation for Washington D.C.

With a small group, no larger than eight guests, you can count on a more personal experience.  Your guide will be available the entire tour to answer questions, take pictures, and even provide recommendations for the rest of your stay in DC. This tour is great for those just looking for a quick ride while getting a great orientation of the city and learning a few things along the way!

FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

All Segway tours begin at 955 L’Enfant Plaza Washington, DC 20024-2119.  By car or by foot, use the address 470 L’Enfant Plaza in your GPS or phone app.  We are on the upper level of L’Enfant Plaza, across the street from US Postal Service Headquarters at 475 L’Enfant Plaza, directly behind the new Spy Museum and adjacent to the L’Enfant Hilton Hotel.

  • Expand/Collapse Is there an age or weight limit?

For your riding safety, guests must be at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 100 pounds and not in excess of 260 pounds. Yes, unfortunately the age restriction is City Law and no, there are no exceptions.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I rent a Segway without a guide?

Unfortunately, we do not rent our Segways out to individuals without a guide. Since our tours are virtually always full, we need all machines for our tour customers.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museum and monuments?

Unfortunately we do not enter the museums and other attractions listed on our tour page as we devote as much time as we can to the tour itself. We will make short stops to learn about the museums and other attractions and give you a great orientation of the city so you'll know exactly where you will want to go after the tour.

  • Expand/Collapse My child is 13 years old and rode a Segway in another city, can he/she ride?

Unfortunately, not. There are absolutely no exceptions to the City Law which requires all riders be at least 16 years old.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We're happy to offer free changes and 100% refund up to 24 hours before tour* Failure to cancel a reservation at least 24 hours prior to scheduled departure may result in forfeited travel funds. Fare difference may apply.

    *See restrictions here

  • Expand/Collapse Are tours cancelled in case of rain?

No, all of our tours run rain or shine. In the event of rain, guides will have ponchos that are free of charge.

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

Reservations are required for every tour we offer. All walk-up customers will be accommodated in the best possible manner based on guide and Segway availability. Our tours fill to capacity on a regular basis. For this reason we highly suggest making a reservation online or contacting us directly to make a reservation. We don't want to fill our tour and miss showing you around!

  • Expand/Collapse Are the Segways safe for children or people with disabilities?

We have had several people with disabilities join our tours. The necessary range of motion required to operate a Segway is similar to that of being able to transfer weight from one foot to another while walking. Also, riding a Segway does require the need to be able to stand for long periods of time.

  • Expand/Collapse How big will my group be?

Our tours operate in groups of 8 people per tour guide.

  • Expand/Collapse What if my party is more than 8 people?

If the party is larger than 8 the group will be split up for safety reasons on our standard tours. We can take larger groups as private tours; however those are subject to different pricing and plans and must be made in advance to make allowances for tour guides and machines.

  • Expand/Collapse What time do I need to get there for my tour?

Your tour will start promptly at the scheduled time, therefore please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour departure time in order to complete the necessary paperwork. Please be aware that we have multiple tours departing throughout the day, therefore if you arrive more than 30 minutes early we may still be working with other guests. This means that even if you arrive early, your tour will still begin at the normaly scheduled time. Each member of your party will be required to complete and sign a liability waiver form. Minors under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete their paperwork.

  • Expand/Collapse Will I need to put down a deposit?

We do not take a deposit, though we do ask one member of your party to provide us with a credit card to save on file while you are on tour. Your card will not be charged unless there is damage caused to the Segway and card information will be deleted immediately upon completion of a damage-free tour.

  • Expand/Collapse I've never ridden a Segway before; will I be able to pick it up quickly?

Your safety is always our highest priority; therefore, we begin each tour with a very thorough orientation of the Segway and its use before going out to enjoy the city! Each of our tours will begin with a short safety video followed by time to practice in our training area across the street and instruction from your tour guide. We will practice on the Segways until everyone feels comfortable.

  • Expand/Collapse I have ridden a Segway before; is there anything I should know?

We do our best to make accommodations for returning riders once we get out on tour, however please be aware that we prefer to train new riders first to give them as much time as possible to practice. While some returning guests wonder why they can't simply be set up on their machines and left to explore, we ask that you remain patient while we allow first-time riders to get acclimated with a minimum of distractions or other riders in the training area. These delays are usually 5-10 minutes at most and help us keep our training area as safe and efficient as possible.
