Experience the Munich City Bike Tour

The Munich City Bike Tour is our all-in-one bicycle tour and is the perfect introduction to one of Germany's most historic cultural capitals. Over the course of your easy four-hour ride, you'll be informed and entertained with sights and stories from Munich, both old and new.

All the main sights are included in this tour, so you won't miss a thing. Whether it's the origins of the Nazi party you're most interested in or their resistance, your tour guide will show you where it all happened and explain how. Aside from Munich's turbulent past, we'll bring you to see the best of Munich including the famous city park surfers, Odeonsplatz, the Bavarian Parliament building and of course the farmers market, amongst other highlights.

Hungry or thirsty? Our Munich City Bike tour is definitely for you. We will cruise through the famous and enormous English Gardens, and we'll make a stop at the city's most traditional and best-loved beer garden for drinks. Munich is a city built upon brewing and during your break, your tour guide will gladly explain how seriously the Bavarians take beer. "Zum Wohl!"

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

This tour meets at the entrance of Karl's Gate (Karlstor) at Karlsplatz. The closest address is Neuhauser Str. 47, 80331 München, Germany. Look for your guide with a bicycle and wearing Fat Tire Tours shirt.

The closest metro station is Karlsplatz (Stachus).

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required for this tour?

Reservations are recommended, but not required. We suggest that you book in advance so that you are guaranteed a spot on the tour, and also to help us better plan for the day of your tour. We can occasionally accept walk-ins, provided we have space available on the tour you'd like to join.

  • Expand/Collapse I haven't been on a bike in years, is biking in Munich difficult?

While all of our tours maintain a leisurely pace, we want our guests to have fun and be safe, so being able to ride a bike is paramount. Munich is a very bike-friendly city and cars are used to sharing the road with cyclists and pedestrians. If you're not sure how you'll fare, feel free to stop by our shop a bit early and take a few practice laps until you are comfortable on the bike.

We believe there is a tour for everyone, therefore each of our bike tours fall into one of the following categories, which you can find identified on the individual tour page:

Leisurely Cycling - Perfect for novice bike riders or those that haven't been on a bike in years. You should have average balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. We will be riding on bike lanes, through parks, and occasionally with traffic. Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety.

Intermediate Cycling - You should have good balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. Riders should be prepared for small hills, riding single-file behind other riders, and riding in a group. Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety.

Athletic Cycling - Tours that fall under this category are by no means strenuous, but they cover a greater distance than our other tours and/or spend more time cycling in the roads than our other tours. You should have good balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. We vary between single-file & group riding. Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety. We have children join us on tours at this level all the time so it completely depends on your confidence with a bicycle!

  • Expand/Collapse Do I need to reserve a bike separately?

No - the bike is included with the bike tour, so just bring yourself and we will take care of the rest!

  • Expand/Collapse Do we stop for lunch?

Yes, we make a stop for lunch during the tour at a local traditional beer garden! The cost of food is not included in the tour price, so make sure to have some cash in euros with you.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour appropriate for kids?

Our tours are great options for families and kids are very welcome. We have several types of kids’ bikes, seats, and helmets to make sure everyone of all sizes is comfortable on tour. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

    • Our city tours are very casual, with only slight elevation gains, on varying surfaces from smooth gravel to pavement. It is necessary however that any person planning on taking our bike tours to have at least some experience riding, and should be comfortable riding in a group.
  • Expand/Collapse What happens if it rains?

All of our tours run rain or shine. If it rains during tour, we do our best to take cover, but sometimes we are exposed to the elements. We have pocket-sized rain ponchos for sale in our shop and we highly recommend that you purchase one before tour. If you don’t use it, we will buy it back from you- it’s a bit of a rain insurance policy!

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

Unfortunately, 4 hours does not give us enough time to enter any of the sites that we see on our City Bike Tour. This tour is designed to enjoy the city from a broad perspective and come away with a greater understanding of its history and layout. Some people would want to spend only ten minutes in the museum while others would prefer 3 hours.

Additionally, German Law restricts museum guides to their authorized officials.

TIP: Should you want to keep your bike longer, and many people do, you get a discount on rental following a tour. Your guide, and our shop staff, will be happy to show you exactly how to go back to any sites you would like to explore further or visit the interior.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I leave the tour early?

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate special requests like this on our public tours. Once the tour begins we ask that you stay with the guide and the group until the end. If you're interested in something shorter, please inquire about a private tour.
